Foreign Service, Military , Government, & International Aid Families & Employees
Being part of the Foreign Service or Washington D.C. Government, can be exciting and offer many opportunities to both families, and the employees.
Whether you are connected to: The Military, The U.S. State Department, Peace Corps, USAID, International Aid Organizations, World Bank, International Corporations, or legislators or staffers on Capitol Hill, you may find yourself struggling with the challenges that can also come with this ever changing and stressful life.
Moving to or returning to the D.C. area can be exciting, but also comes with its own sets of challenges:
Cultural adjustment
Feeling burnt out
Relationship issues
Professional challenges
Helping your children deal with adjustment and change
Problems with mood, like anxiety or depression.
Trying to find a place where you fit, while also managing professional, personal, or family
stressors can be overwhelming.
For myself, as an accompanying spouse of a Foreign Service Officer for the past 12 years, and
mother of two “third culture kids”, I’ve gained a personal understanding of the obstacles in this
life. I have also witnessed and worked with people who have been impacted by the challenges
that can come with this continually changing life.
My international experience is extremely helpful in my work with people dealing with: travel and transition, global deployments, multinational employees, adjustment to a new living environment, or successfully managing a long-distance relationship. The work in your therapy will include: collaboratively helping you build resilience to feel more empowered. .
