***All therapy sessions will be held on a telehealth format.***

I have been providing teletherapy sessions since 2017 and have found the experience to be positive and beneficial. Remote therapy can work well for people who have busy schedules, limited time/access to get to the office, or have relocated overseas.

Below is some information that may help in understanding teletherapy better::

Is online therapy as effective. as in person therapy? Yes, teletherapy has been proven to be as effective/helpful as in-person therapy sessions. However, online therapy is not appropriate for all people or problems. It is a good fit for issues of: anxiety, depression, adjustment challenges, some OCD symptoms, and interpersonal/professional challenges. Remote therapy is not currently a good substitute for significant issues. I am happy to chat with you to see if teletherapy would be a good fit for you.

What do sessions look like? Just like an in-person appointment, it will be a 50 minute appointment. The first few sessions will be focused on personal history and setting therapy goals. I work from Cognitive Behavioral Framework (CBT) and use visual images and collaborative problem solving just like I do in office sessions. We will work together and be creative to make sure that your goals are the focus and you are getting what you want to out of therapy.

Is online therapy secure? I use a HIPAA compliant telehelath format called Doxy. Sessions can also be done via phone or FaceTime. Dedicated telehealth sites and phone are the only secure/HIPAA compliant platforms for remote therapy. I use a dedicated space for sessions, your privacy and security are of the utmost importance to me. I ask that you have a private place to talk during the sessions as well.

Can anyone be seen for remote therapy? I am currently licensed in Washington DC and the Commonwealth of Virginia. I can only see clients via telehealth that are physically located in Washington DC and Virginia. I can also see clients who live internationally (there are currently no regulations for providing remote therapy to people who live outside the United States)

Will my insurance pay for online/remote therapy? In most cases, yes. I recommend that you reach out to your insurance provider directly and ask for the criteria to cover Out-of-Network teletherapy (there is usually some additional codes needed).

When will you return to in person therapy? For the foreseeable future, sessions will be held for DC and Virginia clients via Telehealth format.
